Harare — The U.S. has sanctioned Mali’s protection minister and two navy officers, accusing them of facilitating the growth of the Russian mercenary firm Wagner within the West African nation, Al Jazeera studies.

The Wagner Group and people who help it have been the topic of sanctions for years by the U.S. and its allies. Only in the near past, the UK sanctioned 13 individuals who had connections to the Wagner Group within the Central African Republic, Mali, and Sudan.
