President Ramaphosa to take part within the 79th Session of the UN Common Meeting

President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the South African delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations Common Debate and Excessive-Degree Week (UNGA79) in New York from 21-24 September 2024.

This annual gathering of world leaders is an important occasion on the UN calendar, with Heads of State and Authorities and Heads of Worldwide Organisations discussing world challenges and the best way to handle these challenges in the most effective curiosity of humanity. 

This 12 months, the African Group presides over the Common Meeting, with Mr Philemon Yang, former Prime Minister of Cameroon, elected as President of the 79th Session.

The theme recognized by the President of UNGA79 is, “Unity in range, for the development of peace, sustainable improvement and human dignity for everybody in all places.” 

President Ramaphosa is predicted to handle the Common Meeting on the opening day, Tuesday, 24 September 2024.

Among the many points on which President Ramaphosa will concentrate on throughout his engagements in New York embrace the need for the upkeep of worldwide peace and safety; the Sustainable Growth Targets (SDGs) and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda; local weather change and the upcoming COP29 in Baku; financing for improvement, and well being and pandemic preparedness.

President Ramaphosa will participate within the United Nations Secretary-Common’s flagship Excessive-Degree Summit of the Future (SoTF) on 22 September 2024, which, at its conclusion, is predicted to undertake a Pact for the Future (PFTF).

Whereas in New York, President Ramaphosa can even have interaction enterprise leaders as a part of the drive to draw overseas direct funding for South Africa.
