Secretariat proposes theme for next CoM

The ECA Secretariat has proposed that the theme for fifty fifth session of the Committee of Consultants (CoM) shall be ‘Fostering Africa’s restoration and transformation to scale back inequality and vulnerability’. 

Stephen Karingi, Director of Regional Integration and Commerce Division on the ECA, introduced that the convention shall be held in Addis Ababa between March and April in 2023, if the theme and site are agreed to by the Committee. 

A member state can submit a proposal to host the convention or change the theme if it so needs. 

“Now we have talked quite a bit in regards to the inequalities and the vulnerabilities that our economies are going through due to the place we are actually,” Karingi mentioned. 

“We have to have an in depth dialogue to handle the problems of inequality and vulnerability together with the hyperlink to local weather change, so that’s the background for the following convention.” 

The director added that 41 African international locations have been impacted by current adverse shocks to well being, meals and finance. 

The ECA’s 2021 financial report on Africa confirmed that inequality has elevated in Africa throughout Covid-19, highlighting the necessity to comprehensively tackle the multitude of points going through the continent. 

“Whereas the problems of rising inequality and vulnerability are usually not new, the daunting challenges that they pose have but to be examined by the Convention of Ministers in a scientific and holistic method,” the ECA mentioned.
