FAO appeals for USD 118 million to help Gaza reconstruction
“The livelihoods of farmers, herders and fishers have been devastated by the seven-week battle. Many households have misplaced every day sources of earnings and diet and at the moment are unable to entry or afford the essential inputs wanted to renew manufacturing” warns Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, FAO Assistant Director-Common and Regional Consultant for the Close to East and North Africa, including “the agricultural sector suffered over USD 500 million of damages with over 43 % of its manufacturing gone misplaced. Palestine and Gaza Reconstruction
A Letter of Intent was signed between FAO and the Palestinian Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Issa Shawki, yesterday to reaffirm joint dedication for the early restoration of Gaza.
Consistent with the challenges underscored in a current evaluation of the state of affairs after the disaster and to answer the early wants of the folks of Gaza, FAO is interesting for USD 27 million to hold out emergency interventions and USD 118 million to cowl reconstruction interventions beneath the United Nations Help Plan for the Transformation of the Gaza Strip. The speedy reconstruction and improvement of agriculture in Gaza are key to constructing the inspiration for sustainable peace and prosperity”, he added.
