The police have confirmed the assault and killing of the monarch.
Gunmen have killed a conventional ruler in Ebonyi State, south-east Nigeria.
The sufferer, Umazi Ubani, is the standard ruler of Umuihe Group in Akaeze, Ivo Native Authorities Space of the state.
Mr Ubani was killed when the hoodlums invaded the neighborhood on Friday.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that there have been heavy shootings by the gunmen in the neighborhood throughout the invasion.
The event pressured frightened residents of the neighborhood to scamper for security.
The Coordinator of Akaeze Improvement Centre, Chinasa Okorie, confirmed the incident.
Mr Okorie condemned the killing of the monarch, stressing that it could be very tough to get one other conventional ruler of his type.
“Round 10 p.m. final Friday, I acquired a name that there have been shootings in the home of our conventional ruler. After the shootings, it was found that our conventional ruler had been killed. That’s the conventional ruler of Umuihe Autonomous Group, Akaeze, HRH Eze Umazi Ibo Ubani,” he stated.
The neighborhood chief described the slain monarch, who was about 60 years outdated, as “daring, fearless and clever”. He stated Mr Ubani’s wealth of expertise can be drastically missed by the neighborhood, the native authorities and the state.
He stated solely safety companies can say these behind the assault and killing.
One other chief from the neighborhood, Sinbad Ogbuatu, stated the incident pressured store homeowners in a market across the neighborhood to close down.
“I’ve been calling everybody and no one instructed me there was a disaster or drawback in the neighborhood to warrant such an incident. Perhaps when normalcy returns, we are going to know the reason for all the things,” Mr Ogbuatu said.
Police converse
The police in Ebonyi State have confirmed the assault and killing of the monarch.
The police spokesperson within the state, Joshua Ukandu, stated police operatives have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
“Instantly we received a misery name on the incident, we swung into motion and the assailants had already left the scene by the point our males moved to the scene. However we’re trailing the assailants,” Mr Ukandu, a deputy superintendent of police, stated.
Not the primary time
This isn’t the primary time a monarch can be killed by gunmen within the South-eastern state which has witnessed rising insecurity in latest occasions.
On 27 February 2023, gunmen killed the standard ruler of Umuezekoha Ezza North Native Authorities Space of the state.
The gunmen invaded his palace within the night time and shot him useless.
Afterwards, three days to his burial, final month, some yet-to-be-identified arsonists burnt down his palace.
Earlier in June 2022, gunmen kidnapped the standard ruler of Isuokoma Group in Onicha Native Authorities Space of the state.
The monarch’s whereabouts stay identified even after the abductors reportedly collected an unspecified amount of cash as ransom.
